Many people feel less stressed as soon as they are in the presence of an animal. Many corporations and hospitals know the value of therapy dogs with people. These programs come as pet-friendly offices have been on the rise. According to the Society of Human Resource Management, 7 percent of employers now allow pets to come to work with their owners. Amazon permits all employee to bring their pets. They have over 6000 dogs in their Seattle Washington offices. Employees can visit with the pets for up to two hours.

In the fall of 2016, Aetna launched a Pet Therapy program in conjunction with Pet Partners. The pilot was held at eight locations: Walnut Creek, California; Hartford, Connecticut; Downers Grove, Illinois; Omaha, Nebraska; Portland, Oregon; Cranberry, Pennsylvania; Moon Township, Pennsylvania; and San Antonio, Texas. Golden retrievers are their most popular breed.

With the expansion, the Pet Therapy program will be brought to three locations in Phoenix, Arizona; West Sacramento, California; Plantation, Florida; Sunrise, Florida; Kansas City, Missouri; Omaha, Nebraska; New Albany, Ohio; Blue Bell, Pennsylvania; Arlington, Texas; Houston, Texas; and Richmond, Virginia.

Alexandra Gun, a spokesman for Farmers Insurance said, “We understand that beyond the physical devastation of an event like a hurricane, the emotional toll can often leave a lasting mark on those affected, which is why we work with Pet Partners to provide therapy dogs to our customers and employees on the ground after a disaster.
Physicians say that petting animals can also release oxytocin, a hormone that reduces stress and decreases the production of stress-reducing hormone cortisol.
